Chris Barker Biography

Chris Barker is New York Univeristy’s linguistics department chair. Barker was educated at Yale and the University of California Santa Cruz, where he received degrees in English, Computer and Information Sciences, and Linguistics. Barker has written several scientific papers on linguistics, including “Continuations and Natural Language,” and “Iota and Jot – the simplest languages?” Barker is unique among linguists in that he uses his background as a computer scientist in his research concepts and applications. Barker believes that there is insight that linguists can take from the world of computer science and apply to their own work dissecting the meaning of language around the world.
