Chris Urmson Biography

Chris Urmson is a technology professional who is best known for his work on self-driving car technology. He has worked with Google’s parent company Alphabet on their self-driving car project and he also runs his own self-driving car startup company called Aurora Innovation. Urmson has worked as an assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University and has won several awards for his work. In 2007 he won the Darpa Urban Grand Challenge, a driverless car competition for technologists. In 2009, he began working at Google on the company’s self-driving team. He served as the CTO and stayed in that role until 2013.
