Dee Hock Biography

Dee is an entrepreneur. He worked for major financial institutions for over 16 years covering high-level roles. In 1968, Hock came up with a new technology that could allow global exchange and organization of money. His idea involved a decentralized nonstock membership system, owned by finance companies. He founded VISA USA in 1970 and VISA International in 1974.

VISA is an enterprise titan, totalling $1.5 trillion and owned by over 20,000 financial institutions across 200 countries. Thanks to Hock, VISA grew to be a paragon of quality and innovation, bringing key developments that didn’t exist before. Some of thoese included: the first debit card system, electronic authorization system an electronic funds transfer system, magnetic stripe technology and electronic point-of-sale terminals.

In 1991, Hock earned his place in the Business Hall of Fame as one of the 30 living Laureates.
