Martin Varsavsky Biography

Martín Varsavsky is an Argentine entrepreneur based in Spain who founded several companies worldwide since1999. In 2000, Varsavsky created an application service provider (ASP) in Germany. As with emerging technologies, the company built on the premise that most applications were going to migrate from people's PCs to a cloud based internet. He launched another company at the end of 2005, which provides international WiFi services using user-generated infrastructure and is backed by equity investors Google, Skype, Microsoft, Index Ventures Qualcomm Ventures, and Deutsche Telekom with over 7 million WiFi hotspots in several countries.[10]
Varsavsky has written articles on business and international relations and is a frequent technology speaker at conferences like Next Conference. Martin is also a blogger and contributor to the LinkedIn Influencers Program, where he writes and gives talks on entrepreneurship and technology. In 2012 he began teaching entrepreneurship at Columbia University in New York City.
He has been an investment partner in early-stage companies including iTravel, Aura Biosciences, Menéame, Netvibes, Plazes, Technorati, Eloquii, Dopplr, Tumblr, Hipertextual, Busuu, 23 & Me, MUBI and Result. Outside of telecommunications, he was the majority shareholder of the wind park El Moralejo (a renewable energy generator) and Proesa, owner of the fashion labels Sybilla and Jocomomola. Currently, Varsavsky is Executive Chairman and Founder of Prelude Fertility and Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Overture Life.
