Pattie Maes Biography

Pattie Maes is a professor at MIT's for Media Arts, and Sciences. Shefounded, and directed the MIT Media Lab's Fluid Interfaces Group, the Software Agents group, and was a visiting professor, and a research scientist at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab. She currently acts as the associate Department Head for the Media, Arts, and Sciences Department. She holds bachelor's, and PhD degrees in computer science from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium. Pattie’s areas of expertise are human–computer interaction, intelligent interfaces, and ubiquitous computing. She is the editor of three books, and reviewer for numerous professional journals and conferences. In 2000, Pattie was named as one of the 100 Americans to watch for by Newsweek magazine. TIME Digital selected her as a member of the Cyber-Elite (the top 50 technological pioneers of the high-tech world). She was honored Global Leader for Tomorrow by World Economic Forum. In 1995, Pattie was awarded with World Wide Web category prize by Ars Electronica, and in 2000 she was recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council.
