Toomas Ilves Biography

Toomas Ilves is an Estonian politician. He served as the country’s fourth President from 2006 until 2016. Prior to serving the country as President, he was a member of European Parliament, a European Union role that he held from 2004 to 2006. As a child, Ilves actually fled Estonia as it was occupied by the Soviet Union during World War II. He received an education in the United States and graduated from Columbia University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and the University of Pennsylvania with a master’s degree in the same subject.
